How It Works
Speed up the voting process by bringing your vote-by-mail ballot to a vote center for counting. Simply sign the roster at the check-in table, scan your ballot using the ballot scanner and GO!
Previously, voters were limited to dropping off their vote-by-mail ballots for later processing at the Elections Office. This is still an option, but there are many advantages to scanning your ballot during your visit.
- It is exciting to see your ballot counted in real time as you watch, especially knowing your votes will be included in Election Night results.
- We will not have to contact you later about a missing or nonmatching signature on your ballot envelope.
- Save time by voting your ballot at home, or bring it in and vote at a voting booth. If you forget or damage your ballot, our friendly staff can issue you a replacement.
- Sign, Scan & GO – it’s that easy!

Behind the Scenes
Sign, Scan & Go is Placer County’s implementation of Assembly Bill 626, passed in 2023. Placer County first offered it in the 2024 primary and general elections, which together with the Voter’s Choice Act, more than doubled the county’s in-person voter turnout.
By using Sign, Scan & Go, a voter’s ballot is counted in real time, guaranteeing their votes become part of Election Night results. This is great for voters who track their ballot, who otherwise may wait several days for vote-by-mail processing to catch up. Likewise, using this voting method helps Placer County efficiently work through the remaining ballots after Election Day.
Why Vote in Person?
In 2024, Placer County had the highest in-person voting percentage in California – over 23%! Voting in person is a fantastic way to engage with your community and ensure your votes are included in Election Night results.
If you prefer to have your ballot issued at the vote center, that is always an option! Our staff are there to help and answer your questions.
